Scott Temple, Leading Expert on Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Cancer Patients, Joins Jasper Health Advisory Council
Jasper Health, an end-to-end cancer care navigation and experience platform, today announced the appointment of Scott Temple, PhD, to its Advisory Council. He will join current advisors J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, MD, MACP; Amy Low; Zuri Murrell, MD, FASCRS; Norman C. Selby; Matthew Zachar; Brad Fluegel; and Lisa Suennen.
Scott Temple has a doctorate in clinical psychology and a master’s degree in health policy and management. He is emeritus professor of psychiatry at the University of Iowa and was director of psychosocial treatments there, responsible for training staff and implementing evidence-based therapies. He is a Founding Fellow and a Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapy Trainer & Consultant of the Academy of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. His most recent book is Brief Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Cancer Patients: Re-Visioning the CBT Paradigm.
Jasper Health uses a human-led, insights-driven, whole-person approach to cancer care guidance and support. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), a psychotherapeutic approach to manage the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behavior, can ultimately improve functioning and quality of life for cancer patients. Integrating CBT will enable Jasper Health to further support patients and caregivers that could benefit from additional emotional support, helping them face their psychological suffering and improve their quality of life.
“I’m excited to work with the Jasper Health team to help improve the psychological wellbeing of cancer patients,” said Dr. Temple, a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Iowa. “I’ve been impressed by the talent and healthcare expertise present on the Jasper team and their passionate focus on the patient. The healthcare system is desperate for innovation around new forms of service delivery, and Jasper Health is using technology to extend care far beyond the consulting room. As a clinical psychologist, I am delighted that they are improving access to psychological support at a time when many are otherwise unable to access such care.”
“We are thrilled that Scott is joining the Jasper Health advisory council,” said Holly Spinks, Chief Nursing Officer at Jasper Health. “His expertise and accomplishments in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for cancer patients will enable Jasper Health to build out new hybrid digital CBT capabilities into our platform. This, along with our Care Advocate coaching, will allow us to make a significant impact on cancer-related anxiety, stress and mental well-being.”
